Product Description

In the early thirties, there were two big names in motorcycle racing which competed with one another on the American tracks; they were Harley Davidson and Indian. At this time, the sportiest bike in the Indian range, with a top speed of around 60mph and good handling, was the Scout. In 1934, the company introduced the Sport Scout, which was pretty much just an improved version of the standard Scout 100 model, with a heavier and stronger frame for racing. In 1937, Ed Kretz, who dominated racing stateside for almost a decade, won the inaugural Daytona 200 on a Sport Scout. In 1940, Indian came out with its plunger rear frame and the famous skirted fender. At the same time, the Sport Scout got a lot more finning, to cope with the extra heat that was generated by hauling around the extra weight. It is a 1940 model that Minichamps has elected to make and we cant disagree with their decision. Its a great looking bike and a truly significant Indian. It has to be said that were quite impressed with Minichamps' 1:18 Indian Sport Scout. It may not be the heaviest diecast bike weve handled, with more plastic parts than metal ones, but the detail is all there. We like the front suspension with its girder forks and large single spring, the plunger frame, the suspended saddle, the intricately spoked wheels and the skirted front fender. The instruments, the gear change mechanism and the assortment of rods and cables are also rather splendid. This is number 68 in Minichamps Classic Bike Collection.
